This morning on MSNBC I watched the footage from 9-11-2001, that terrible day our nation experienced the horror that terrorism can bring. It rekindled the emotions I had that day and left me feeling so sorry for all those people who died and suffered. Now seven years later I cannot help but reflect on that day.
The playback showed our president telling us he would hunt down those responsible for this attack on America. At that point I had to wonder how we ended up in Iraq? How can Bin Laden be still at large? How can his group of extremists still be out there plotting against us?
After all, this is America, the most powerful government in the world. I had to stop and wonder why we haven't arrived at resolving this threat?
Then I began to look at our government today and all the management blunders that we have experienced since then. You all should know what they are unless you have been living under a rock the last seven years. Now I feel somewhat confused for where we are since 9-11.
The thought that 50% of our country still believes the republicans should remain in office for four more years is simply hard to understand realizing what has occurred since that tragic day.
We have seen them divide our country not only between each other, but in the world as well. Other countries have lost our respect for they too see our management blunders. We have seen our home values drop, people lose their jobs, unemployment rise, energy costs get out of hand, health care eat away at our ability to afford it, our deficit grow to record levels, our children and grandchildren given a huge debt to look forward to.
Yet with all this and more, still 50 % of my fellow Americans still believe that the republican party should lead this country. I can only ask myself, "When Will They Wake Up or don't the things mentioned even matter to them?" I have tried daily to understand my fellow citizens who fall in this 50%, trying to figure out what they are thinking that makes them so comfortable with a 72 year old Washington insider and a unknown governor that has extreme right wing views, a party that everyone knows runs on lies and not their record, a party that has brought us to this point in our country's history.
I may never really figure them out. I can only hope that someday soon they get it like the other 50% do.
Aloha Mike
